This Lake Hemet family reached out to us for help creating the entertaining space of their dreams that would make everyone who came in feel right at home. With one child of their own and multiple foster kids, the family needed tons of space and storage, but wanted a unique vibe that was inspired by the Mexican artwork they loved. As a work-from-home mom who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, our client needed her kitchen to become her mini sanctuary.
Solutions
The problems with this case were many. Starting in the kitchen, there wasn’t nearly enough storage to feed all the kids and guests this family loves to feed. The cabinets were big-box-store special that collected dust and often disorganized. The lighting was dim and the range wasn’t code compliant. One of the strangest things about this home was that the powder room was accessed through the pantry/laundry area. It was confusing and always a cluttered mess. Most of all, the family wanted to make sure that their foster kids had their own bathroom that made them feel comfortable and at home.
Final Design
The final beautiful design brought in new lighting, a more cohesive flow to the kitchen, a casual breakfast nook in the dining area. We kept the lower cabinets and built in new uppers, painted a modern blue (Navy Masterpiece, Benjamin Moore) with brass hardware, accentuating the windows. The fun backsplash cleaned up the space and we added water lines for the ice maker and pot filler. By creating a new pantry and moving the stove over, we tripled the storage and brought the kitchen up to code compliance. Finally, we moved the washer and dryer into a hall closet and closed up the old pantry to make more space for a new full bathroom with a gorgeous tub and shower. What started as disorganized, confusing, and unwelcoming, is now an inviting space where the parents, kids, and guests all feel comfortable and at home.
